In 2021, we applied for and were awarded a grant for the remodeling of the ophthalmology operating room at the St. Louise Clinic.

Unfortunately, the pandemic hit, followed by a civil war in Tigray that lasted until the end of 2023. The project was therefore not possible, and we returned the funds received to the medical association.

In 2024, we submitted a new project, but other very good projects were submitted, and we were unsuccessful.

This year, we are submitting the project again: “OPHTHALMOLOGY SPECIALTY STUDIES FOR AN ETHIOPIAN DOCTOR,” and we hope for better success. It is a wonderful project with which we are paying for the ophthalmology training of an Ethiopian young man, who has already received a scholarship from the PV (Pharmaceutical University of Tigray) to study medicine and has passed the entrance exam for the specialty.

With this project, we are not only helping to train a local ophthalmologist, but we are also ensuring that we have an ophthalmologist as the clinic’s director when Temesgen graduates.
