of the news regarding the current political situation in Ethiopia,
endorsed by our Embassy and of other last minute difficulties,
it is very good news that Dr. Ignacio Vinuesa and Nurse Concepción
Garcia have been able to travel to St.Louise during the first
fortnight of November. We are very grateful to them for their
willingness and effort in such a complex situation as the one
we are presently facing. Their effort has proved worthwhile
,with very positive results , the team have seen a great many
patients who were at the clinic awaiting their arrival.
In spite of all the above mentioned difficulties, it has made
us very happy to hear from the team members and from the Sister
herself that the situation in Mekelle is normal and as safe
as always. This will make it possible for our teams to continue
carrying out their tasks as usual in the future.
Our gratitude goes out to the BETESEB Association, who , as
they have been doing for the past few years has again cooperated
Their contribution helps to pay for part of the travelling and
maintenance expenses for some of the patients with no means
LOUISE EYE CLINIC
second team in 2016
Since 16th May Dr.Tomás
Martí has been continuing our activities at St.Louise Eye
Clinic. Dr. Martí is working closely together with our
Cataract Surgeon Mr. Berhano who is carrying out his task with
his usual high degree of ability and professional competence .
Mr. Berhano performs many cataract surgeries and thus Dr. Martí
is free to take care of those more complex surgeries requiring
a higher degree of medical specialization.
EYE CLINIC , Our first team in 2016
Mariella will be travelling to Mekelle on 30th April, he will
reinitiate our activities at St.Louise Eye Clinic. We would
like to mention that during the period in which we could not
travel, it was possible to continue with surgical activity at
the Clinic thanks to Mr.Berhano, our Cataract Surgeon, trained
by Proyecto Visión . Thanks to him it has been possible
to take care of a great many patients. Dr. Mariella will be
seeing those patients who because of their specific pathologies
could not have surgery.
So we are happy to be back to business as usual
after this most unwelcome interruption.
ARE FINALLY BACK WITH OUR ACTIVITIES AS USUAL
reasons we have been obliged to suspend the activities of our
teams for six months.
authorities have demanded that our doctors should have a work
permit, as if they were employees of the Clinic and not mere
volunteers. The situation has involved painstaking work in respect
of the administrative procedures, the legalization of documents
by the Ethiopian authorities with a very high financial cost
to us. In spite of the cost, we are happy in that we have been
granted four work permits already and we are now working on
the obtention of nine more permits for 2016. This means we can
send out five teams this current year and the resumption of
our usual activities.
TEAMING CSI 2016 for Vision Proyect

for social projects TEAMING CSI 2016.
to express our thanks for the trust and recognition hereby given

PLAN FOR THE THREE YEAR PERIOD 2017-2019
In accordance with the mandate expressed at Proyecto Vision's
Annual General Meeting we have drawn up a viability plan for the
three year period 2017-2019. This plan has been approved by the
Board and it will enable us to continue with our activities with
the necessary guarantees.
Also, and as a consequence of the above we have been able to
renew and sign the agreement of cooperation for 3 years with St.Louise
Eye Clinic ,thus guaranteeing its financial viability for this

AND DIFFICULTIES FACED IN 2016
As from the end of last year we have been very
busy with the renewal and regularization of the professional documents
needed in order to obtain work permits for every member of our
It is a lengthy and expensive process but it is essential in order
to be able to work legally at St.Louise Eye Clinic. The financial
cost of the 15 permits we have obtained so far has been very high.
This year, as well as the difficulties we have
had to face in order to match the individual schedules of the
members of the various teams, it has also proved complex to adapt
them to the Clinic's needs and possibilities. As a result of all
these factors there has been a substantial reduction of the number
of teams travelling to St.Louise in 2016.
